As a color consultant I can't overemphasize the power of color. Color is life. Color enhances everything. Just imagine the world without it. We describe the seasons by it. We use it on the walls of our homes to make a statement about our taste. We say our mood is blue or sunny. And nowhere does its power come into play more personally than in our wardrobe.
Find what color is right for you!
BASIC COLOR TIPS
- The concept that every woman needs a white shirt is wrong. Only women who look good in a white shirt need one.
- If you have sallow skin, dark circles or bags, don't wear black near your face, it only draws attention to it. Uncle Fester from the Adams Family is an expert on this fashion statement.
- Color plays up curves that black obscures. Flaunt it if you can!
- If you're petite or of larger build, avoid a dramatic color contrast between top and bottom as this will cut you in half.
- A monochromatic palette instantly slenderizes. So take your color palette and chose one among your own favorite colors and have fun.
- You don't necessarily have to totally ban any color in your wardrobe, even if it clashes with your skin tone. Most important is what you wear near your face. So, if you love magenta pink, but it isn't in your color palette, you can still wear a pink skirt, or enjoy pink handbags and shoes.
- Never put green and red together unless it's Christmas or you are watching an Italian soccer match.
- Look at colors in natural light whenever possible. Something you try on under store lighting can look very different once you leave the store.
Always remember fashion should be fun. Otherwise why bother?
